After months of waiting, Thomas finally arrived at the B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore, MD. I told Khai that Thomas was coming all the way from the Island of Sodor especially to see him. He was pretty impressed and it only took as much as a threat to call Thomas and tell him not to come because of some bad behavior that would snap Khai back into shape. (what am i going to use now that Thomas is gone??!!) It was 90 something degrees, hot and humid. But, for the simple fact that this was bigger than Christmas to Khai, it was all worth it. When we finally found Thomas, Khai started running towards him saying "Thomas!!! You're here!!!!" I only wish I could have gotten it on video! Our ride wasn't until later in the afternoon so we went and checked out all the other trains and activities around the station as we melted ...
Ride time came, and was set to be a short 15 minute one. A complete waste of $64, I must add. The view was non-impressive. I thought we would ride in open coaches but we didn't (i had looked up other Day Out With Thomas events, and they had open coaches... in fact, they had alot more going on.. other Thomas characters and trains were there... all we got was Thomas and Sir Topham Hatt who we didn't even get to see). Even Khai lost interest at some point. Reminder for next time, skip the ride. I am certain Khai would have been just as happy just visiting with Thomas.
And then when the ride was over....dun dun dunnnn he asked to play on the moon bounce!! They had three huge ones there, which he beyond conquered. Diving head first, taking dives off high points, flipping backwards. I don't know where any of this came from, but my little boy has finally stepped over into the fearless zone... it can only take off from here.
As the day wore down, we headed out to say Goodbye to Thomas as he made his way back home.. Khai was sad to see him go - but this other little boy was in serious tears. Its amazing how a train can capture these little kids hearts. The entire ride home, Khai asked why Thomas had to leave. :-(
